Miller Valley Fire Control Corporation
started as an organization to cover county areas outside Prescott city limits started in the 50's. The Fire District was inaugurated on March 11, 1965. Initial equipment included a small trailer with pump designed to be towed and manned by volunteer firefighters. Today The Central Yavapai Fire District provides fire protection services to residents of Yavapai County within a radius of 150 square miles and is form by 17 Fire Districts. Partnerships have been developed to provide modern fire protection services. The primary partnerships include the City of Prescott Fire Department, Chino Valley Fire District, Mayer Fire District and Groom Creek Fire District, United States Forest Service, Arizona State Land and the Prescott Area Urban Wildland Interface Commission.
CYFD and PFD cooperates along with the Fire District to provide joint dispatch , training, defensible space vegetation removal and an area wide Hazardous Material Response team. CYFD's firefighters are trained in basic wildland firefighting methods. Additionally, many choose to receive more advanced training and participate in the off-district wildland team. This provides the opportunity to work closely with the Forest Service, assisting with suppression efforts in local forests and across the country. The Prescott Area Hazardous Materials Response Team (PFD) consists of Hazardous Materials Technicians trained to identify and safely isolate unknown substances anywhere in Yavapai County .
