The Yavapai Humane Society was formed in 1972 by a small group of citizens. There desire to form a society for the prevention of cruelty to animals resulted in their incorporation in 1972. Today the Yavapai Humane Society shelter and heal animals entrusted to them, secure quality homes for future animal companions, provide and advocate spay/neuter to eliminate over-population, and provide education and resources that promote Responsible Pet Ownership (RPO).

The Yavapai Humane Society facility manage more than 5,000 animals a year in a facility that has the capability of housing 34 dogs and 60 cats. In the aid of providing the community with the reduction of the pet over-population problem the Yavapai Humane Society has opened a low cost spay and neuter clinic in the county.
